The Leadership Shelby County Committee is excited to announce that futurist Dr. Peter Bishop will be coming to Center on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at the Windham Civic Center.

A futurist is one who examines current events and trends and is trained to extrapolate the next steps based on what is going on right now.  Or, in other words, they look around the corner to see what is there.

Dr. Bishop is the Chair of the Future Studies program at the University of Houston and has spoken to other organizations such as NASA, Microsoft, IBM, Shell Oil, the Department of Defense, and others.  Dr. Bishop has also published numerous articles in journals, and has even published a book on future studies.

The event will kick off at 10:30 a.m. when Dr. Bishop will speak about recent trends and changes going on in the world right now and how those changes will affect the next 1, 5, and 10 years.  A lunch will be provided and Dr. Bishop will instruct on how to think about the future and spot changes and how to react to them.  Finally, Dr. Bishop will challenge attendees to change their way of thinking regarding the future and conclude at 1:30 p.m..

The benefits of this program is to train participants to identify opportunities or threats to a business, to be inspired to see new products of services to offer as well as new markets or ways to reach new markets.  Also, to be able to know if a business or industry is poised for rapid growth or a slow decline will be discussed.

Reservations are open to the public for $20.00 which includes lunch. Please RSVP to the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce at (936) 598-3682 or info@shelbycountychamber.com by Friday, February 9.
