New Mapping Features Added to Website

CITY OF CENTER RELEASES NEW INTERACTIVE MAPPING FEATURE ON WEBSITE

CENTER, Texas (June 12, 2013) – A recently added feature to the City of Center’s website allows people to access different maps of the City.  “The City has a mapping system called GIS, or Geographic Information Software,” described Center City Manager Chad Nehring.  “This system is an analytical tool which allows for the visual depiction of certain types of data.  GIS can be a powerful tool and provide great information.”

The City’s GIS system keeps a database of information such as water and wastewater lines, the locations of fire hydrants, street lights, flood plain and zoning information.  This information can be valuable for anyone looking to make an investment in Center or to just collect more information on a piece of property.  “Countless times, we have created an analytical site map for a prospect  who is looking at a piece of property and they want to know the locations of water and sewer lines or the zoning classification,” Nehring continued.  “This has been a great tool to help encourage the growth of the City.”

Now that much of this data is on the City website (www.centertexas.org/mapping) anyone can look at it with just the click of a mouse.

The information on the website provides data from the Shelby County Appraisal District.  “You can type in a property owners name and you can see some of the information the Appraisal District maintains such as deed information,” Nehring said.  This system is similar to Google Earth, but with a lot more information specific to the City of Center,” Nehring concluded.  “We hope that people will find this feature useful.”
