Demolition Grant Program
The City of Center offers a structure demolition grant program to qualified properties inside of the City of Center. Please download the grant application for more information.
How does the program work?
The City of Center will reimburse a property owner up to $3,000.00 of the cost of the demolition and removal of a dangerous structure once a new structure is in its place and a certificate of occupancy is issued by the City.
How does the City determine if a house is considered a dangerous structure?
The City Code of Ordinances establishes objective criteria to determine if a house is considered to be a dangerous structure. The City electrical, plumbing, fire and housing inspectors must sign off that the house meets the criteria. The house must be labled a dangerous structure in order to qualify for the grant.
Does the house have to be vacant in order to qualify?
No, the house does not necessarily have to be vacant in order to qualify for the grant.
What kind of house needs to go in its place?
A structure that complies with the zoning designation at that location can replace the dangerous structure. The new structure must comply with all building codes of the City of Center.
What paperwork do I need to provide for my application?
You will need to provide a copy of proof that the land and building belong to you; this may include a deed or tax records. You will need to provide receipts showing that you have already paid for the cost of demolition and removal of the structure. Once the City has issued a certificate of occupancy for the new structure, the City will issue a check in the amount of the demolition not to exceed $3,000.00.
